About Abruzzo Italy
Abruzzo is the region of Italy that Tommy Lasorda and his family consider home,
their legacy and heritage stems from his Father; Sabatino Lasorda, who was
born and raised in Abruzzo.
The families affinity for Italian culture and tradition is found in the beautiful DOC wines that Tommy Lasorda has personally selected and branded from this region.
This area of Italy was already inhabited in pre-Roman times by the pre-Indo-European culture of the Piceni and subsequently by various Italic tribes. The kingdom of Southern Italy came to an end in 1860 following Garibaldi's victorious campaign that united modern Italy, and Abruzzo became a separate region of Italy as recently as 1963. The region of Abruzzo produces one DOCG and three DOC wines, and they are also known as a long time source of robust wine varietals blended into well known labels from other regions.
Abruzzo is emerging as a producing region of select and boutique wines in their own their right. Two of the most promising and well known wines from Abruzzo have been selected for the Lasorda collection; Montepulciano d’Abruzzo and Trebbiano d’Abruzzo.
