The wine of Casanova...Giacomo Casanova (1725-1798), famous for his amorous exploits, wrote in his book “Historie de ma vie’ The good woman served a delightful meal of excellent fish dressed with olive oil, and gave us some Refosco to drink that I found exquisite”.
 
Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso is a red Italian wine grape grown predominately in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of northeast Italy. The grape is a sub-variety of the Refosco grape and derives it name from its red stems or peduncolo rosso. The grape has a long history and was praised by Pliny the Elder in the first century for the quality of wine it produces. Today it is found in the DOC of Friuli Aquileia.

Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso (d.P.R.), is a red Italian wine grape grown predominately in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of northeast Italy. The grape is a sub-variety of the Refosco grape and derives it name from its red stems or peduncolo rosso.
 
Pliny the Elder, who died in the eruption of Vesuvius in 79 AD, wrote about Livia, wife of Augustus; that she liked one particular red wine. That wine was Refosco, which at that time was called “Pucinum”, and she would drink no other wine. She lived to be 86 years old, an extraordinary age in Roman times.
