Wine Notes:
A traditional and authentic style Super Tuscan from the royal Barco Reale vineyards, which are known as the royal vineyards of the Medici family, a short distance outside the city of Florence; il Poggiale began producing this authentic style Super Tuscan in the 17th century.
Barco Reale is the location that the Grand Duke of Tuscany, in 1776, denoted as DOC vineyards. Today, many of the best wines produced in Tuscany come from this area.
The name Morello signifies a particular color, of a powerful horse, that is distinct to this area of Tuscany which is a beautiful rich chestnut color. The Sangiovese grapes of Barco Reale and this wine share that same color.
Winemaker Notes:
An easy drinking favorite of Tuscany, at sight the wine is a brilliant and vivacious ruby red color. The nose is subtle, yet wide and persistent with hints of currants, summer flowers, and essence of oak from the barrels. The wine is medium bodied with full flavors of spicy dried fruits and a firm–touch of tannins that are in perfect balance with the acidity of the wine. The finish is smooth, pleasant and long.
Wines from this appellation are usually suited to moderate aging and may also be drunk young.
At its best when opened 45 minutes or longer prior to serving.
Pairing:
Pairs exceptional well with wild game, roasted or grilled meats, roasted chicken, pizza and pasta.
