Wine Notes:
This traditional style white wine is produced with the dominant white grape of Italy; Trebbiano, which is noted in historic text to have first been introduced to the region of Tuscany many centuries ago.
The vineyards of Il Poggiale are situated in the district of Barco Reale, better known as the royal vineyards of the Medici family that were once the most prized vineyards in all of Italy.
Trebbiano may have originated in the Eastern Mediterranean, and was known in Italy in Roman times. A subtype was recognized in Bologna in the thirteenth century, and as Ugni Blanc it made its way to France, possibly during the Papal retreat to Avignon in the fourteenth century. The Trebbiano family account for around a third of all white wine in Italy. It is mentioned in over 80 of Italy's DOCs, although it has just six of its own. This classic style white wine is an excellent example of the traditional quality from Tuscany and features Italy's #1 white grape, which in Italy, originated in Tuscany and is now the most readily grown and diverse white grape of Italy.
Winemaker Notes:
From estate grown hand selected grapes, at sight this wine is a subtle straw yellow color with light golden reflections, clear and transparent, and vivacious in its hues. A delicate aroma, smooth, fresh and fruity, with hints of peach, white melon, and citrus persists on the nose. The flavor is consistent with the bouquet, with sharp tangy notes, bright citrus fruits and well–balanced hints of minerals are welcome in this incredibly refreshing white wine, which lead to a smooth, crisp, clean and pleasant finish.
This wine may be enjoyed for 2 to 3 years from release during which time it will retain all its fruit characteristics.
Pairing:
Pairs well with grilled, broiled, or fried fish, shellfish, white roasted meats, and simply by the glass.
