Wine Notes:
The little brother of Brunello di Montalcino...and just as Good.
Brunello is not Montalcino's sole entry in the field of premium wines. Previously appreciated and widely known under various denominations, the Rosso di Montalcino acquired a precise identity and official recognition with issuance of the DOC in 1983.
Rosso di Montalcino is a younger wine that combines a special vivacity and freshness with superb structure, is an old world favorite of Italy made using the Sangiovese Grosso grapes that remain from the selection process for Brunello, as per DOC specification, but aged less than Brunello, but having the same wonderful characteristics.
Winemaker Notes:
At sight this wine is a deep ruby red color with a wide, floral and persistent bouquet. The nose is full with aromas of violets, vanilla, dried fruits, and a hint of oak. On the palate the wine is slightly dry, yet full and round with a velvety taste, generous body and characteristics similar to those desired in a great Brunello.
This wine can be enjoyed young and becomes more refined for 3 to 5 years or longer.
At its best when decanted or opened at least 60 minutes or longer prior to serving.
Pairing:
Pairs well with hearty soups, pasta, grilled, braised, or stewed meats, and mature cheese.
