Wine Notes:

A traditional style southern white wine and the 2nd most popular white wine of Sicily.

Grillo, which is a robust and hearty grape grows mainly in the hot, dry, western region of Sicily, is also known as "Riddu" by the farmers and vintners whom cultivate the rich volcanic soil of the island.

This classic style white wine is a mainstay of the region and one of the oldest wines produced in southern Italy. Its origins are uncertain, but it may have been introduced into the island from Puglia. It was already widely planted in the Province of Trapani by 1897; today it is grown throughout Sicily and also in the Aeolian Islands.

Winemaker Notes:

An old world style white, the grapes are harvested by hand to ensure the highest quality and at sight this wine has brilliant transparency in its lemon yellow color with brilliant golden reflections. The nose is intense with influences of floral wild flowers, hints of oak, lemon zest, white pepper, and white fruits intertwined. The pallet bursts with aromas and flavors consistent with the nose. It is robust, slightly dry and harmonious, full and viscous, with hints of lemon and slight acidity and an excellent persistence that offers a great span of flavors. This wine is produced with minimal intervention and is a great example of a classic Sicilian white wine.

This wine may be enjoyed for 2 to 3 years from release during which time it will retain all its fruit characteristics.

Pairing:

Pairs exceptional well with grilled or deep fried seafood, white roasted meats, light pastas or pasta with cream sauces, and simply by the glass.
