Wine Notes:

First introduced in Sicily centuries ago to support French wine production, this wine is a traditional style Sicilian red wine renowned for it popular and consistent quality.

Merlot grows throughout Sicily and is known as "il Sannino" by farmers and vintners of the region.

Today, Merlot grapes grown in the south of Italy and the wines they produce have taken on their own special characteristics and quickly become a much talked about value throughout the world.

The hot and arid climate of Sicily and influence of Mt. Etna; that creates the rich mineral soil, have allowed Merlot to flourish. Still utilized by the French actively, the full fruit flavors of Sicilian Merlot and the ever present hint of spice are wonderful additions to the popular big blended red wines.

Winemaker Notes:

The grapes of this wine are harvested by hand to ensure the highest quality. At sight the wine is a deep garnet, ruby red color, nearer to a dark blue or black. On the nose it is full and inviting, with a herbaceous yet delicate bouquet and ample amounts of ripe red fruit and flowers. The taste is full-bodied and smooth with hints of toasted vanilla, nicely tannic and well-balanced. This wine shows the exceptional quality produced in Sicily today.

Wines from this appellation are usually suited to moderate aging and may also be drunk young.

At its best when opened 30 minutes or longer prior to serving.

Pairing:

Pairs well with roasted chicken, grilled meats, hearty pasta dishes with tomatoe-based sauces, and spicy foods.
