Winemaker Notes:
A Southern Italian New Trend Varietal that is Sure to Please
The Grapes of this wine are Hand Picked and Selected
The Merlot grape, which was introduced to Sicily in the 17th Century, was mainly grown to support French vintners and production of French varietals.
Merlot grows throughout the region of Sicily, and is also known as il Sannino , by farmers and vintners alike. Today, Merlot grapes grown in the south and the wine produced have taken on their own characteristics in this hot region. This wine is made of 100% Merlot and is Aged for 6 months in French Oak Barrels and 3 months in bottle. At sight this wine is a deep garnet, ruby red color, nearer to a dark blue or black.
On the nose it is full and inviting, with a herbaceous yet delicate bouquet, with ample amounts of red fruits and flowers. The taste is full-bodied and smooth with hints of toasted vanilla, nicely tannic and well-balanced.
Ideal with savory entrees, pasta, roasted meats and game.
