Wine Notes:
The #1 most popular and undisputed gem of Sicilian wine making.
It is named after Avola, a small town in the far south of Sicily and its wines are compared to new world Shirazes with sweet tannins and plum or peppery flavors. It also contributes to Marsala blends which are some of the most popular wines from Sicily.
The most important and #1 grape in Sicily, is the most well-known and most grown grape on the entire island of Sicily. By total volume it is the most grown grape in the world.
"The Black Grape of Avola" appears to have been selected by growers near Avola several hundred years ago. Initially, it was confined to the southern tip of the island but more recently has spread throughout the island and north throughout the mainland of Italy. However, the best examples of Nero d'Avola wines are still produced in this part of Sicily due to excellent climate and soils. Nero d´Avola now grows throughout the region and the wines that are produced take on their own special characteristics depending on the part of the island or counry in which they are grown. Today it is one of the most well-known wines from all of Italy, both in quality and for its value.
Winemaker Notes:
The grapes of this wine are harvested by hand to ensure the highest quality. A classic style southern gem, at sight this wine is an intense ruby red color with hints of garnet.
