Wine Notes:

An exceptional example of a traditional style Chianti selected to represent Tommy Lasorda and his Italian heritage, this wine hails from the world famous wine region of Gallo Nero in Chianti Classico, the heart Tuscany, and is part of an assortment of wines that were carefully researched and selected over many months by Tommy Lasorda and team of wine professional led by a Master Sommelier, sommeliers, and certified wine specialists. The Gold Medal Collection of Lasorda Italian wines represents the Gold Medal that Team USA won at the 2000 Olympic Games coached by Tommy Lasorda. On the label, the Lasorda Vintage logo is a representation of Tommy's Hall of Fame ring he received in 1997 with a diamond baseball in the center.

In 1716 Cosimo III de Medici, the Grand Duke of Tuscany issued an edict legislating that the three villages of the Lega del Chianti (Castellina in Chianti, Gaiole in Chianti, and Radda in Chianti) as well as the village of Greve and a 2-mile (3-km) stretch of hillside north of Greve near Spedaluzza as the only officially recognized producers of Chianti. This delineation existed until July 1932, when the Italian government expanded the Chianti zone to include the outlying areas of Barberino Val d'Elsa, Chiocchio, Robbiano, San Casciano in Val di Pesa and Strada. The 1932 expansion was canonized into DOC regulations in 1966. Since the mid 1980s, the Chianti Classico zone has had it own DOCG recognized area separate from the greater Chianti region. As of 2006, there were 17,640 acres (7,142 hectares) of vineyards in the Chianti Classico region.

The Chianti Classico region covers an area of approximate 100 square miles (259 square kilometers) between the city of Florence to the north and Siena to the south. The four communes of Castellina in Chianti, Gaiole in Chianti, Greve in Chianti and Radda in Chianti are located entirely within the boundaries of the Chianti Classico region with parts of Barberino Val d'Elsa, San Casciano in Val di Pesa and Tavarnelle Val di Pesa in the province of Florence as well as Castelnuovo Berardenga and Poggibonsi in the province of Siena included within the permitted boundaries of Chianti Classico.

Winemaker Notes:

Aging in French oak gives this wine its traditional character and complexity, and a deep ruby red color with garnet hues. On the nose it is wide and full with intense lingering aromas and spiced notes. This elegant and well balanced wine has subtle flavors of vanilla, cocoa and spice, a smooth body soft and warm, with a long, slightly dry and velvety finish.
A wine that truly gets better with age!

This wine can be enjoyed young and becomes more refined for 4 to 5 years.

At its best when opened 45 minutes or longer prior to serving.

Pairing:

It is almost impossible to incorrectly pair this wine with anything. Best served with roasted or grilled meats, rotisserie chicken, and perfect with pasta.
Price: $24.98
