Wine Notes:

This wine hails from Abruzzo; the region in Italy that is home of the Lasorda family heritage.

This wine should not be confused with Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a Tuscan red wine made from Sangiovese along with other grapes, but not the Montepulciano grape variety found in Montepulciano d'Abruzzo red wine.

Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is the name of a vigorous red grape variety planted over much of central Italy and mostly in Abruzzo, and the name of a town in Tuscany in central Italy at the centre of the zone producing the highly ranked and prestigious DOCG red wine Vino Nobile di Montepulciano (which is not made from this grape variety, but is made around the town of the same name).

Winemaker Notes:

Made from select grapes to ensure the highest quality, at sight the wine is a brilliant and intense ruby-red color with shades of violet. The wine has beautiful aromas of cherry and plum, complimented by cedar and spice on the nose. On the palate this wine is bold, full-bodied, and is very well structured with fine tannins and a clean, persistent finish.

Wines from this appellation are usually suited to moderate aging and may also be drunk young.

Pairing:

An excellent wine to enjoy with a variety of foods, especially first courses, roasted and grilled meats.

Legend states that the Montepulciano d'Abruzzo grape was introduced by farmers into the region of Abruzzo many centuries ago. The grape they introduced was the noble Sangiovese grape taken from near the town of Montepulciano in Tuscany. To distinguish themselves from the Tuscan varietal they renamed the grape Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, mostly for the area in which it was taken from.
