Wine Notes:

First created by the Medici family vintners of Tuscany, this wine is an old world style classic produced within the Barco Reale vineyards that are part of the Medici estate. Barco Reale translates to Royal Vineyards.

Established in 1994, this is one of the most recent DOC appellations in Tuscany. It belongs to those appellations that are called "a cascata", or cascade style, where from a single grape variety it is possible to obtain a number of different wines.

Carmignano, whose prestigious red wine has already secured a place among superior wines of Italy, deserved to see its other wines launched too. The hills of Carmignano and the Medici Estate comprise Barco Reale, a vast territory that was once a hunting reserve. Today, Barco Reale is the name of a fine wine produced with Carmignano grapes and recognized as the origins of all Super Tuscan wines today.

Cosimo I de Medici and his son, Ferdinando de Medici, upon taking over rule of Tuscany, built Villa Medicea and created the boundries of Barco Reale or royal vineyards. Soon afterwards Francesco II de Medici turned the villa and land into a large hunting estate and the royal vineyards and land were then qualified and established. Today, the villa acts as a convention center with a 4 star hotel and restaurants, and the royal vineyards and winery now known as the area of Carmignano, are amongst the best in Italy.

Winemaker Notes:

This incredible blend, aged minimum 6 months in French Allier Barriques, give this wine its amazing character and structure. At sight a bright and lively ruby red in color. The nose is gracefully wide, round, full and intense. The taste is slightly dry, soft, fruit forward, lush and smooth, with a warm, long, well balanced, flavorful finish.

Wines from this appellation are usually suited to moderate aging and may also be drunk young.

At its best when opened 45 minutes or longer prior to serving.

Pairing:

An excellent wine to enjoy with just about everything.
