Wine Notes:

The word "Vino Ruspo" means "stolen wine".

First created and popularized by the Medici estate sharecroppers in the district of Carmingano that attempted to make the prized Carmignano red wine for themselves.

Vino Ruspo means "stolen wine," and was made by the Medici sharecroppers of Carmignano who worked the vineyards for the Medici family; who would take the day's last load of grapes home, stand the hopper in a tub, and keep the must that trickled out during the night (the grapes were returned to the landlord in the morning).

Since Sangiovese grapes are red, the wine the farmers "stole" is a rose. Of course that was a while ago; now the farmers own the land, and continue to make Vino Ruspo both for tradition's sake and because it can be quite refreshing.

Winemaker Notes:

Fattoria di Artimino's Vino Ruspo is brilliant rich salmon color with rose reflections and white rim. The bouquet is fairly intense, with raspberries and some bramble mingled with underbrush. On the palate it's full, and lively, with bright raspberry fruit supported by a slight peppery burr and by deft acidity that gains its fullness from some sweetness as well; and flows into a clean bright raspberry finish.

This wine may be enjoyed for 2 to 3 years from release during which time it will retain all its fruit characteristics.

Pairing:

Pairs well with barbeque, pasta, pizza, and fried foods.

Price: $17.98
