Primitivo Salento IGT
$15.98
Mastri Vinai

The grandfather of Zinfandel, the Primitive grape is historically recognized as the vine that created American red Zinfandel.

It appears that the variety from which this wine is made; Primitivo, got its name because of its tendency to ripen earlier than other types of grapes. It is believed through archaeological evidence that points to the domestication of vitis vinifera somewhere in the Caucasus around 6000 BCE, and to the discovery of winemaking shortly after.

That wine was Refosco, which at that time was called “Pucinum”, and she would drink no other wine. She lived to be 86 years old, an extraordinary age in Roman times.
